Abstract

The stress that accompanies the thesis-writing process often affects students’ psychological condition, leading to the assumption that self-compassion plays an important role in their psychological well-being. To examine this assumption, the study focused on undergraduate students in Jakarta who were currently writing their theses, employing a quantitative non-experimental approach with a correlational design. A total of 100 respondents were selected through convenience sampling, and data were collected using two instruments: a Self-Compassion Scale adapted from Neff’s measure and Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being Scale. After the assumptions of normality and linearity were met, data analysis was carried out using Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results revealed a correlation coefficient of 0.774 with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a positive and significant relationship of strong magnitude between self-compassion and psychological well-being. In other words, the higher the students’ self-compassion, the higher their tendency toward psychological well-being during the thesis-writing process.
