Abstract

This study was motivated by the growing trend of adolescents engaging in microtransactions in online games, which risks triggering maladaptive consumer behavior. The urgency of this study lies in the need for effective interventions to curb the urge to top up, thereby safeguarding adolescents’ financial well-being and self-control. The method used was a single-subject experiment (Single Subject Research) with an A–B–A design, combining self-monitoring techniques and positive reinforcement. The results showed that rewarding adaptive alternative behaviors successfully reduced transaction frequency significantly. This reduction in behavior remained stable even after the intervention was discontinued, indicating the development of self-control and new, healthier financial habits in the subjects
