Abstract

This article aims to analyze the managerial and institutional dimensions in developing outstanding Islamic schools as part of strengthening the quality of Islamic education. This study employs a literature review approach by examining various scholarly works on the concepts of outstanding schools/madrasahs, school-based management, and quality management in Islamic education. The findings indicate that outstanding Islamic schools are built upon professional and transformational school leadership, competent teachers, adaptive and integrative curricula, student-centered learning services, conducive learning environments, and active participation of parents and the community. From an institutional perspective, the school’s distinctive excellence is supported by a clear vision and mission, an Islamic quality-oriented culture, extensive collaborative networks, and the implementation of SchoolBased Management and Total Quality Management integrated with the values of faith and piety. This study affirms that strengthening managerial and institutional aspects in a systemic, participatory, and sustainable manner is a fundamental prerequisite for realizing competitive and character-driven Islamic schools
